Hello everyone, my name is Ben Cole and this is my first video in a series of weekly tips for D365 Business Central. Today I want to share a quick shortcut that saves me time every single day: the Alt + Q search shortcut. We will additionally look at bookmarking pages so they show up on your Role Center.

Table of Contents

About ALT + Q

If you use Business Central regularly, you know how quickly work can get interrupted by hunting for the right page. Alt + Q puts you directly into the global search bar so you can jump anywhere in the system without touching your mouse. It’s simple, fast, and a huge productivity booster.

How to use Alt + Q

  • Press Alt + Q — this moves focus straight to the Business Central search bar. No mouse needed.

  • Type what you need — things like "Bank Accounts", "Customers", "Sales Orders", or any page or report name.

  • Open the item from the suggestions to go directly to the page.

Bookmarking Pages in Business Central

Once you find a page you use all the time — for example, Bank Accounts — you can bookmark it so it appears on your Role Center. This makes your most-used pages one click away every time you land on your home screen.

  • Open the page you want to keep handy.

  • Click the bookmark icon to save it to your Role Center.

Important: bookmarks are tied to your current Role Center. If you switch roles, you’ll need to save bookmarks again for that role.

Quick tip: Get to your Role Center with Alt + T

If you want to return to see which role center you are currently using, use the Alt + T shortcut.

Wrapping up

Keyboard shortcuts like Alt + Q and Alt + T are small changes that add up to big time savings. Bookmark the pages you use most, keep them on your Role Center, and enjoy a faster Business Central experience.
